Peter Cooper Village/Stuyvesant Town Community Center
New York, NY
This community center, located within a large apartment complex, was designed to give residents a space to meet, participate in activities and be part of a community.
The existing space was an old laundry room located in the cellar with almost no natural daylight. Our design included opening up three sides with oversized windows and adding a large light-filled vestibule to provide a welcoming entrance. The program required that the 1500 SF space be flexible for a wide variety of uses including lectures and movies, exercise groups, as well as individual use. The folding wall allows the Center to be used for dual functions while furniture can be quickly put away to accommodate larger groups.
